summertime music

I updated a mini-playlist on the right side of your monitor of a few songs that make me feel like its summertime. It is far from it here, but in my mind it is def summertime.

speaking of monitors....just bought me a Dell S2409W monitor for my new setup for next year. 24", 1920x1080 resolution, 1080p, vga/dvi/hdmi, energystar/epeat silver. Got a pretty good deal on it, thanks for ordering it ma! This time I made sure it went though cause my mom ordered from America, so there is no way Turkey can interfere this time!

so once I order my Mac Mini, I'm gonna be lookin goooooood, and looking out for the environment. When both my mini and monitor are in idle mode, they consume less than 15 watts of power. That is 1/4 of your standard incandescent light bulb in your house. I also plan on getting an external hard drive that runs on 40% less power than the standard external. Doing what I can to help out the environment.

my question to you is - what are you doing to help the environment?

episode 3: turkey strikes back

so I have been MIA for the past 48 hours on here because I have/had food poisoning...again. It hit me early Friday morning, and I've been getting dominated by it since. I'm almost positive it was the fish I had on Wednesday haha. I was doing some research, and I found out it can take up to 48 hours for the food poisoning to take its toll. I feel better now. Last time I got food poisoning (about 5-6 weeks ago) I only got it downstairs. This time, Turkey was kind enough to not only give it to me downstairs, but throwing up as well.

What sucks the most is on the way back from the gym on Thursday, I remember telling A-tom that this was the first time I have been 100% well since I have been in Turkey. Well. that lasted about 12 hours haha. Oh well, no biggie. All I can do now is try and get hydrated again by Monday. I am *finally* back to my racing weight again! I tipped the scales at 158 pounds on Thursday, up from 147 abot 2 months ago. I just hope I didnt lose too much weight from being sick.

Oh, and I'm also taking a break from my cardio next week. My legs are starting to take a beating from the running. I'm still gonna be lifting weights, but I'm doing a little cross training....with yoga. Yes, yoga. I signed up to do yoga on Monday and Thursday next week. I think it'll be fun to stretch out a little bit, not to mention there are gonna be bunch of turkish hunnies gettin all bent out of shape around me :)

I was going to go to this traditional Turkish dinner with all the turkish students tonight, but I dont think I am going to anymore. I feel like I could go, but I dont think I am ready to stuff my face with a ton of food yet. Oh well.

sad day in turkey

about 5 minutes ago, two very sad events occurred. First, my pork nuggets I smuggled from Paris ran out. Then, as if to rub salt in my wound, my Cheese Wiz ran out too. I mean, I can handle one at a time, but both?? I think a small, salty tear streamed down my cheek. However, my pseudo wolverine sideburns caught it.

I spent most of the day in Asia, but now I'm back in Europe. Ya know, just skippin from continent to continent. haha. We explored a couple little costal cities over there, pretty cool. I have been wanting to get a fish sandwich from the Asian side since I got to Istanbul. and today I did.....

and it was the worst fish I have ever eaten. quite possibly the worst sandwich of any kind I have ever encountered.

for those that are from Daytona, imagine the smell of the docks at Down the Hatch. Then, imagine eating fish that tasted identical to that smell. But, dont add any seasoning. Leave the bones in. and the black nasty skin. And dont provide any sauce. Then....you almost have what I was served haha. I ate about half of it, and quit. Oh well haha

its all good though. It made my stomach a little upset, but I'm not mad about that at all. Ya know why? Cause I came home and took a power nap, and it was incredible. First nap I have taken since I left America. I may be obsessed with power naps now.

Didnt go to the gym tonight. I have jurys tomorrow on my studio project, and I had too much work to do tonight. Its good though, my legs needed a break. My feet are getting a little beat up.

a slight change of plans for my triathlon as well. I am no longer doing the Callaway Gardens triathlon. I am now doing the Dunedin triathlon on June 14th. Its on Honeymoon Island (oooo how exciting), just a little north of Tampa. I am racing my motorcycle now on the day that the Callaway Gardens one.

so that should be an exciting two weeks. Triathlon one weekend, racing the 600 next weekend, 23rd birthday the next weekend!

noodle bliss

so I'm sitting her eating some beautiful beef ramen noodles. Trying to calm my nerves.

I jumped on this awesome deal on a new monitor for my computer that was 52% off with free shipping. I was soooo pumped, and come back from the gym only to find out that may order had been cancelled. Seems like something went wrong with Paypal. I can safely assume that me being in Turkey had something to do with it. Probably didnt like the location or something retarded. I've put an email into the place I bought it from to see if I can still get the same sale price on the now sold out monitor. Hope they have some pity on me.

So I was going to make a video blog (vlog??) as I juggle today, but the internet is exceptionally horrible tonight here at the flat. So, trying to upload a video to youtube here is gonna be impossible. So, look for that tomorrow after my class, should be up about the time all you Americans are waking up. Can I just say something realy quick?? I'M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN WHERE AT LEAST EVERYTHING WOOOORRRRKSSS. my little remix

I'm looking at 50 days until america (I think). Give or take a day, I have to get my flight worked out. Seems to be a problem with the scheduling...oh well. I'm really missing all my friends and family back home, I'm ready to see everybody! Not really ready to leave here, just ready to see everybody.

oh and today I played badmitton today for the first time! Well, kinda. Minus the next, and in a hallway haha. It was fun, not near as exciting as raquetball or tennis. But, still fun to play in studio instead of working. alright, time for some beauty rest. I am in desperate need of it, I gotta offset my helmet hair with stunning good looks. night!

holy popcorn goodness

with the help from a-tom and mi madre, I just made some popcorn! Well, I actually cut open a microwave bag, poured the kernels and slab of orange butter into a pan with oil in it. Popped beautifully!! The bottom layer burned slightly, but 90% of it was deeeeee-lish. Heck yeah, I have about 4-5 bags left. Sounds like movie nights to me...anyone interested?? females preferably. I know some of the turkish girls are reading this right now....I wont say names haha. Hit me up on the down low and we can make it happen like we are on a boat and I am the captain. hehe, well I think that rhymes, doesnt make sense though.

Photobucket

helmet hair

I now have helmet hair. Not in the sense of I was wearing a helmet and now my hair is messed up, but more like my hair looks like a helmet. I just consider it my juggle protection. I tend to get smashed in the face by stray balls from my juggling. here is a quick clip of me getting straight dominated, but the music was my motivation.

expect a video blog made tomorrow while I juggle..haha well I have some practicing to do before then. Otherwise it will be a two sentence blog.

circus freak

I am officially on my way to being a circus freak. I am picking up juggling pretty good. The hardest part is not running forward while doing it. So tomorrow I'm gonna hit up the local square and tear it up out there, I may even put a shoe box out and see if I can get some change. Maybe it will help if I roll around in the dirt and wear old clothes haha.

today for lunch we went down to a little market area that is down on the river. They have these little stands that sell potatoes and waffles to go. I had one of the waffles a month or so ago, it was delicious (minus the pineapple that tasted like dead fish). So I got a potato today, and it must've weighed 3 pounds. No joke.

. and . it . was . delicious . down . to . the . last . spoonful .
Photobucket

I also watched Boondocks Saints tonight. that movie is da bomb diggity!! I was gonna make some of the popcorn I got from my fam, but I remember that I dont have a microwave....doh. Any suggestions on how to pop it? I feel like cutting open the bag and dumping the kernels into a covered pot on the stove is a horrible idea. I'm open to suggestions.

ok! gotta get some sleep so I can make some paper juggling tomorrow! love peace and mega potato grease

chadder cheese

I now remember why my parents called me "Chadder cheese" when I was younger.

I came home yesterday and had not one, but TWO packages waiting on me. I knew my parents sent me one, but my sis Lindy snuck one in there too! You guys are the best, I love my family fa sho. 75% of the package is processed cheese products haha. I guess I am a lot more American than I thought. Here is a pic when I got the package, and about 30 seconds later after I straight destroyed the packages trying to get into them haha. I was so excited I kinda went nuts with a dull knife, but I finally got into them.

Photobucket
mmm boxes

Photobucket

my sister sent me a little set that is gonna teach me to "juggle in an afternoon". The coolest part about it is that she actually read my bucket list, remembered that I wanted to learn to juggle, then found a juggle set, then sent it to me. So AWESOME. Thanks a ton Lindy/brent/sophie(cat)/abbie. You guys are the best.

So me and nick went to this really awesome mall today a few stops down on the metro today. It is massive, six floors of shopping goodness. I got me some new baggies in preparation for the summer....they are light pink with grey/blue argyle haha. I love them. Anyways, they had this store called "Koctas" (pronounced koch-tash). It is pretty much a turkish home depot, I'm talking down to the color and the way they write numbers. Check out the pics

haha, even the font is that fat pen letters

Photobucket
we managed to find a tape measurer. I just assumed no one measured anything here haha

Aight well I gotta go! Gonna go take my clothes of the line and get some dinner. Then off to the gym to do the fully sprint triathlon run and bike distance back to back. First time I'm gonna do the full distance, should be brutal and fun! Seeeeeee ya

weeeeee

so Istanbul is trying her best to make me have a bad day, but it aint gone happennnn! I am untouchable right now, feelin good feelin great.

apparently our internet was unplugged yesterday afternoon cause some people havent paid their water bill yet. I dont know if that is true, but that is the rumor that is floating around. So, sorry about not blog post yesterday. But! now I'm at school, and the internet is cruisin pretty good.

Photobucket
I took off 1:28 from my ten mile bike time last night! It was a good night at the gym fa sho. I am drinking about 3 liters of water a day, and so when I get my cardio on, I sweat like a champ. I def covered the stationary bike in fo-head sweat...whoooooops. Dont worry, I wiped it off with the towel I havent washed since I've been here haha.

Today we have a preliminary review for our preliminary review next week in studio. I've been having a lot of fun in studio so far cause I'm taking a nice little break from building architecture, and kinda swimming around in a sea of industrial design. Here are a few little succulent morsels of my designed goodness

everyone calm down

due to the overwhelming response to my Paris mega post, I am gonna keep this one short. I am in need of new shoes when I get back to america... I have straight worn out my current SB's. Cant wear them in the rain cause my left shoe has a giant split in the bottom that sucks up all the water...soaking my foot. "Swamp foot" is what it is commonly referred to as here.

Pretty sure the rip in the bottom was caused by me skateboarding in my skateboard shoes when I was in Auburn....ok well at least they are comfy. So, here are the new ones that I designed. I will order them in a few weeks. They take 3-4 weeks to make, and I will get them shipped to Daytona. Anyways, here is what they look like. Enjoy!!

and yes, dad I know you will hate them...as usual haha

over the hump

so I have officially crossed the halfway point of my Istanbul experience. I return to the glorious states two months from yesterday. That makes it something like 1 month and 29 or something like that. One month and some change looks a lot better than four! If I could somehow make the weather better over here, then everything would be gravy. The constant grey sky, cold wind, and rain is really starting to piss me off. They say its not normal for it to be like this, but I think they are lying. I looked at the average temperatures for Istanbul by month, and it wont even average 70 degrees in May. BLAHHH! put me on the beach and crank up the Jimmy Buffett.

*Paris: as seen by a skinny, pale American*

We flew out of Turkey late thursday evening, and had a connecting flight in Frankfurt, Germany. Got my passport stamped in Germany, that was pretty cool. Then we got lost, and lost again. The Frankfurt airport must have been designed by Stevie Wonder. It makes no sense, and it is huge. We got stopped in security cause of Nick's bag, but its was all good cause the security girl was super cute. We were really late, so I had to run. But, if I had time, it would have gone something like this...
security girl: well hello. you look stunning tonight
me: why thank you
security girl: where are you flying to
me: Paris, ya know, just a weekend thing
security girl: ooo...you must be rich
me: I see Euros, that's right, plurals

and so on....hahahaha. let me dream

ok so after security, we straight up were speed walkin to the terminal (which was 23 miles away). We get there, and the dude goes "where have you been, the plane is waiting on you" hahaha ooooooops. So we made it just barely, but made it nonetheless. So we get to Paris (Charles De Gaulles airport) around 11:30pm. By the way, that airport is realllly cool. We meet up with Charlotte, hop on the metro, and get settled in at her place.

Friday we wake up and hop on the metro, get off in the center of Paris, and just walk around and see a ton of stuff. Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumphe, the Louvre, Garden of Kings, Beaubourg, all the fancy and retarded fashion stores. Really cool, the city is amazing. This is about the time I start to fall in love with the lady named Paris. I hit up the Virgin Megastore, and they are playing some really chill hip hop music I had never heard before. So I am scrambling around trying to speak broken French and find out what is playing in the store. Finally, as the song is ending, an employee understands me and shows me the album. I ended up buying it, and it is incredible. The group is called The Tones, and the album is Dreamtalk. I'll put them up on the blog soon. We went out to this really cool little French dinner joint, and I pretty much ordered Ole Mcdonalds farm, then ate all of the little animals. I had some duck, goat cheese, and something else that I cant remember right now.

Saturday we walked around Europe's biggest mall for a while, and I had a French hotdog...it was aight. More roaming around Paris, and finally ending up back at the Eiffel Tower around dusk. We went up to second level, the top was closed :(   I saw the tunnel that Princess Diana was killed in, don't know how I feel about that. I bargained with a street vendor under the tower, and got some mini Eiffel towers super cheap haha. Well, they are really cheaply made, so I guess it evens out.

A few French beers and a couple hours of sleep later, Sunday arrived. We went to Disneyland Paris. It was incredibly exciting going back to Disney. The look and vibe is just like the Disneyworld in Orlando, but there are def some differences. We didnt stay there very long, but I did get to walk around the park once and ride Pirates of the Caribbean & Space Mountain. I recorded both of the rides in their entirety, but my video camera isnt so good in dark environments....and both of the rides are really dark. But, the audio is amazing. By the way, Pirate sound way more wicked in French...sorry J Depp. Oh, and the Space Mountain there was an actual rollercoaster...flips and all!! Pretty much straight dominated the Space Mountain in Orlando.

The flights this morning were good, nothing special. We went through Munich, Germany. That was pretty cool. Now, I'm back in studio! Just another day in the life of a jetsetter I guess...hahahaha no...but seriously.   That was my last trip I think, I gotta get locked down on my triathlon training and studio work. Enjoy the pics, talk to ya soon!!

my ten year

I really think Paris is my second home. Everything here just works perfectly with me.

ok I am being completely serious when I say this, today I figured out my ten year plan. I have had a few pieces of my plan lying around for a while, but my weekend here has been the mortar to my plan. so here it is:

°begin learning French
°graduate
°move to orlando
°get a job as an architect with Disney, become an Imagineer
°spend three years working there
°get my architecture license
°transfer to Disneyland in Paris
°enjoy the perfect job and the perfect life in the perfect place

what do ya think?? Today it finally all clicked, I figured out exactly what I want to do with my life. This weekend has been one of the best weekends of my life. Not just for myself, but the people in my life. Keep it up Dad, I'm really happy for ya!! Lindy, keep killin those interviews (although I am biased towards Midwestern, it looks beautiful on the site).

I gotta give a shout out to Charlotte! Thanks for the best trip ever, all the discounts at Disney, free place to stay, translator, and french teacher. You are the best! I'll be your host when you transfer to Orlando!!

So I gotta finish this beer and get to sleep. My flight is at 6:20am...and my cab gets here at 4:30am    yikes.   I will blog and email as soon as I get to Istanbul. I love everyone!!!! peace

POP

yesterday was pretty much the most relaxing day ever. I am completely in love with Paris. The vibe is very similar to Chicago. All the people are happy, families, young couples in love. Just all around beautiful.

I didnt expect it, but the Eiffel Tower is nothing short of stunning. At night when it is all lit up, it is probably the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. No joke.

My posts are gonna be short cause I didnt bring my laptop, and this French keyboard is kicking my butt. So, look for mega picture post when I get back to Istanbul.

side note, I have learned more French in the past 36 hours than I have in Turkish in 2 months haha....love peace and crepe grease :)

LIVE from paris!!!

so from the time I left istanbul to the time I got to Charlotte's house took about 12 hours. Its all rice and cheesy though. I had amazing food on the plane, and we are about to eat a late night dinner here. I think we are going to Disney on Sunday.... I AM SO PUMPED!!!

on a huge positive note, I've already eaten two sandwiches with pork, and I'm currently gnawwing (no idea how to spell that) on these little pork nugget things. yummmmmmy.

ok that took me about 10 to type what you just read cause the keyboards here are soo different (I'm on Charlotte's laptop). I'll give you an example.

this is what the sentence looks like on an american keyboard
this is ahqt the sentence looks like on qn q,ericqn keyboqrd:::: but in Frqnce

hahaha. ok!!! talk to errbody tomorrow!!! good luck Lindy!!

abs is best thing in turkey

so I was standing at the crosswalk waiting to meander to the other side today...meanwhile all the native Istanbulians just run out into traffic, I choose to wait. So, in the 20 seconds I was standing there, I witnessed the ABS (anti-lock braking system) kick in on 3 cars. Yes, three. I'm not even positive my scion has ABS, I mean it is supposed to. but in 3+ years of driving one, I have yet to make it kick in. That is just a little example of how I can explain how crazed the drivers are here.

here is my flight info for tomorrow if you are interested:

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

well, that didnt work out

so I finally finished my animation this afternoon. It took me about 20 hours or so total, including the hours and hours of just clicking things to to and figure stuff out. As expected, it killed the quality and resolution of the video. Unexpectedly, youtube killed the audio on my video also because I sampled 90 seconds of Linkin Park's "Shadows of the Day." Oh well, just know that the animation is set to the beat, and let your heart beat out its own magical rhythm.

anyone ever really look at the word rhythm? yeah, it is probably the most retarded word ever.

side note, copped the Dream's new album this morning, and it is amazing. Go buy it!!

edit: well maybe the audio is working when I embed the video? I dont know, enjoy

oooo that was fun. ok, back to working on the video! pppppppppeace

hahaha nicely done

ok you guys def came through with captions! Its gonna be a tough decision, but I'm gonna go with Lindy on this one!! She walked the line of being inappropriate, while staying classy....stay classy san diego...

Her prize will have to wait a few days. I am pretty busy right now with school, trying to get everything done early so I can take off this weekend for Paris. I had a couple technical problems with my video I was making. I should have it done by Wednesday, so look for that soon.

I seem to have caught a little bit of a cold from my roomie I think. Just a little sore throat and a mini cough. No biggie, I just ignore it. I do this everytime I start to get sick, just tell myself I am not sick, and it goes away. Its all mental babbbbbyyyyy. Oh, and the mass amounts of water, multi-vitamins, and 1000mg of vitamin C a day help out too...

Hope your interview went well Lindy, I'm sure you killed it! In a good way...hopefully not in a literal translation kinda way. Oh, and sorry about calling you in the interview. I thought you were driving...apparently not. My b.

Sandy!! What kind of strings did you pull to get all access like that to the Supercross?? That is awesome, I need more details though. I'm def jealous. Can you tell me what happened during the race? All it said online was that Bubba went down first corner, came back to 7th. And that Chad Reed almost got whooped by a rookie, hahaha he is so lame.

I'm on the hunt for a brush or comb. My hair is fro-in out, and it is getting slightly out of control. I haven't brushed my hair in a single time my recent memory, so I'm a little out of the loop. Do guys use combs or brushes? I mean, I would like to get a comb that flips out. Ya know, Fonze style. Can't have it all, especially in Turkey.

HOLY CRAP
I just found out there is a Taco Bell in Paris. Yes, you read that right. Now I just have to find it, and enjoy it daily.

Gotta run to studio...look for another post later today entitled "Good news, bad news". Should be a good one.

dirty pop

what up world! Last night was pretty amazing. We had all the Turkish girls from studio over at our place, along with some of their friends. We listened to some good ole american hip hop for a while, then they took us to this 90's Turkish pop music club. It was awesome. The music was pretty standard, most of it just had a catchy beat and was repetetive. Only problem is my ears are still ringing this morning haha.

Most of the weekend I've been working on this video project for my cultural context class. The teacher is...umm..."spacey". I don't know if that is a word, but it pretty much sums it up. Last Wednesday she told us to make a video that expresses our trip to Mardin....without using any video clips....that is due a week later.

So, I jumped on it. I've always wanted to learn how to do 3D animation, so I sat down and started teaching myself how to use Adobe After Effects on friday. I picked it up pretty quick, and spent all friday night and all day saturday building my little cube in 3D. I still have to animate it, but that is the easy part...I think haha. I'm using Linkin Park's "shadow of a day" for the music. I dont know, it was weird...that song was stuck in my head for some reason over the trip. It was only fair for me to use it in my "video."

Hopefully I can finish the video today and post it up on the blog. Don't get over excited about it though, its really simple.

Thanks Sandy and dad for staying up and letting me watch the race yesterday! You guys are the best.

So I'm going to Paris in 4 days! Nick, adam, and I are flying over there for the weekend. We made a friend while in London, and she invited us to stay at her house for the weekend...for free. I can't say no to that. Our flight was $215, and we are staying for free. So all I have to do it pays for food, and I know she knows where all the cheap joints are at. I'm gonna see if I can take a trip to Paris for around $300 hahaha. How amazing is that?? I'm PUMPEDDDDDD

alright, here is a random picture for the day. Lets do another contest...this time it is a caption contest! Limit one answer per person, all rules and restrictions apply. Only available at participation locations and all the jazz. This picture was taken at the London airport...lets keep the comments clean. I mean, this is a family environment!

my bad about not posting up yesterday! I had a really busy day yesterday, no down time. It was a good day though! I did a half simulation of my triathlon, and took 42 seconds off my time since last week. It feels so weird getting off the bike and starting to run. The first 1/4 mile, my legs feel like they weigh 200 pounds haha.

can I just say real quick, life is good!

So after the gym, I came home and a bunch of people came to our house. We listened to some music here for a while, then we went out to a karaoke bar. Oh yes, I said karaoke bar. It was my friend Jennifer's birthday, and she wanted me to sing. So, I got up there first with her and we sang "Candy Shop" by 50 cent. It was epic, to say the least. We had the place bumpinnnnnnn hahahaha. They played some michael jackson, mambo number 5, oasis...all kinds of random music.

I gotta run, I'm on my way to a furniture expo out by the airport with some of the German & Finnish students. I dont really know what to expect from it, but it should be fun.

and mom, since you won the contest, be on the lookout tonight for a special gift! love ya, peeeeaaacccceee!
